8th grade

8th grade was in Austin, TX, for me. Leaving Key West was very hard. Each move as I got older got harder. We only lived in Houston for 8 or 9 months before Dad got stationed to Vietnam. Texas is kind of a blur to me. It's funny. Dan told me that he remembered Texas really well. I guess he got his first job there, and maybe his first car, too.

Anyway, I barely remember school at all. I do remember babysitting during the summer. We lived in an apartment building. I babysat for a family in one of the other apartments who had 1 year old twins, David and Amy, and an older toddler, Sami, 4. I also babysat for another family with one girl about 4 and a little boy around 1. I can't remember their names. Both the families were very nice. I made 50 cents an hour. I babysat all summer and made $200. Crazy. But the kids were really cute. It was funny to take the twins and Sami to a park and watch all of them go 3 different ways. I remember holding the little girl in the other family in front of the mirror and saying, "Who's that?" and teaching her to say, "Me!!"

  1. Mave, I think we lived in Austin, not Houston. I guess it really is a blur to you.
