Lou Kok email - July 31, 2015

Dad sent a great email yesterday, one that is typical of him when he is, in my thinking, "in rare form." My cousin Jeff's wife Tami responded and said someone should be keeping Dad's emails, and I thought she is right! I'm going to try to put them in this blog and keep them.

Subject: Hello

Hello,

This is my second attempt at writing this email. The Weather People here say we are going to have a hot day this last day of July. I do not have Air conditioning in my apartment. Fran has AC in her apartment. The ducks are flying today, doing touch and go in the pool. Anyway, we are doing well. We keep taking our pills, drinking infinite amounts of water. "The human body runs on water" so say the 7th Day Adventists. They do not drink coffee or soft drinks with any caffeine in it. They do live longer than the average bear. They are known for their hospitals and other health endeavors. Their day of rest is Saturday and they observe other of the O.T. rituals about eating and drinking. .we had an Airman 7th Day Adventist working in our Chapel Office in Nam. I have been watching a couple of documentaries on the last days American military was in Saigon at the end of our presence there. The American Embassy Building was a familiar site to me That was a bad time for the Americans there and even much worse for the Vietnamese who had been working for the Americans or had connections with the American military. We had a Vietnamese secretary in our office. I suppose she might have been vulnerable for her activities. It's quite horrible to remember. Her name was Mai. She did not have a very good command of the English language so she could not accomplish all that much for us.

Have any of you tried out the meat pies now available on Grover Street just before 3rd. I had one last Sunday night and it was great. They have about a half dozen different meats available. I don't eat the finger food here Sunday evenings. Today we have Mingle in the Meadows, a glass of wine and some salty appetizers. I'm not supposed to use salt or the salt shaker. I'm still taking two kinds of water pills. I could go on and tell you about all the other pills I take but that would be even more boring than the rest of this letter.

Then, there is the Mariners What a group. If they pitch well, they hit less. If they hit well, they pitch terrible. It's a losing cause. Still, I watch them rather religiously. Enough about the Mariners; the news is not so good.

I have a new office chair on which I can raise and lower the seat by pushing a button When I raise it I can stand up more easily, from sitting to standing. What a deal! The chair is made in Sweden. Those Swedes are socialistic but they make a pretty good office chair for an old man half weak. That reminds of the old man who said I can't see, I can't hear, I can't walk, but, by George, I can still drive.

So, I hope you all are doing well. We have to try to get these emails going a little more often.

Take care and have a great weekend.

Love you all, Your old Dad or whoever. Lou & Fran. Fran wants me to sign her name too.
